Founder-led in Sri Lanka
A personal way to experience Sri Lanka
OriEve Journeys was created by Lahiru Pathirathna — Founder, OriEve Journeys for travellers who want more than a route between well-known places. It offers a thoughtful way to discover Sri Lanka through personal conversation, honest local context and a Journey shaped around the person taking it.
Every enquiry begins with Lahiru. He listens to what interests you, how you prefer to travel and what would make Sri Lanka meaningful to you. From there, he plans and refines the Journey with you—bringing together place, pace and practical detail without turning the island into a checklist.
Meet Lahiru
A Sri Lankan story shaped across the island
Lahiru was born in Bibile in Uva Province, raised in Matara on the southern coast, and his professional life later brought him to Colombo. Family life has also created a close connection with Kandy and central Sri Lanka. He now lives in the Western Province and continues his professional work in Colombo.
Those connections across different parts of Sri Lanka have given Lahiru a practical sense of how the island changes from region to region—through pace, landscape and everyday life as much as through its better-known sights.
Lahiru has travelled widely around Sri Lanka since he was young and continues to explore and learn. His long-standing interests in Sri Lankan history, philosophy and nature help him look beyond a list of attractions—to the relationships between places, the stories they hold and the time a traveller needs to experience them well.

Thoughtful judgement
Experience that supports careful planning
Alongside building OriEve, Lahiru brings a professional background in banking, administration and senior information-technology systems work. That experience has shaped a calm, methodical way of planning: listening carefully, understanding requirements, noticing dependencies and turning many moving parts into a coherent direction.
For a traveller, that means enthusiasm is accompanied by judgement. A beautiful idea still needs to work as a Journey—with sensible pacing, honest qualifications and practical choices that fit the person travelling.
Why OriEve began
Personal rather than packaged
Lahiru created OriEve around a simple belief: a Journey through Sri Lanka should feel personal rather than packaged.
He wanted the planning conversation to begin with the traveller—not with a standard itinerary that everyone is expected to follow. Sri Lanka can hold culture, Tea Country, wildlife, coast, nature and quiet time within one Journey, but the right balance is different for each person. OriEve exists to make those choices thoughtfully and explain them clearly.
Not as a tourist — but as a friend.
The phrase describes the spirit of the relationship: personal attention, honest advice and a familiar local presence, while each Journey remains grounded in what can genuinely be arranged.
Founder-led in practice
A direct relationship from the first enquiry
Founder-led is not simply a label on the website. Lahiru personally:
- reviews and responds to your enquiry;
- discusses your interests, preferred pace, priorities and practical needs;
- prepares the initial Journey direction and refines it with your feedback;
- considers routes, places to stay, experiences and timing against available options and practical conditions;
- welcomes OriEve guests in Sri Lanka; and
- remains appropriately involved before arrival, through the agreed Journey and after departure.
The process remains collaborative. A first conversation may take place by Zoom or another mutually suitable method. You do not need a finished itinerary; a broad travel period, a few interests and a sense of how you want the Journey to feel are enough to begin.
A familiar local presence
Attentive, without being intrusive
Within the arrangements confirmed for your Journey, Lahiru acts as your familiar local Founder-host. He works alongside the appropriate professional driver, chauffeur-guide, national guide, naturalist or specialist where their role is needed. His involvement complements that professional expertise; it does not replace it.
His approach is attentive without being intrusive: present when you need support, unobtrusive when you want your own space.
Confirmed bookings, availability, safety and real operating conditions always shape what can be arranged.
What this means for you
Continuity, context and a considered pace
You have a clear relationship from the first enquiry onward. The person who listens to your priorities is also involved in shaping the Journey and helping it remain coherent as the details develop.
- a Journey built around genuine preferences rather than a traveller category;
- honest context when choices involve trade-offs;
- a considered pace instead of unnecessary activity;
- practical details discussed before commitment; and
- a known local presence when you arrive in Sri Lanka.
Begin with a conversation
Tell Lahiru what draws you to Sri Lanka
You do not need to know the whole route before getting in touch. Tell Lahiru what draws you to Sri Lanka, who is travelling and how you would like the Journey to feel. That is enough to begin shaping something personal.
